January 8th Statement 2001
THE YEAR OF
THE AFRICAN CENTURY For Democracy, Peace and
Development
The ANC has marked the 89th anniversary
of its formation by calling on all South Africans to work in 2001
towards the reconstruction and development of our country and the
renaissance of our continent, Africa.
In its annual January 8th Statement,
ANC President Thabo Mbeki calls for a sustained offensive to wipe
out poverty in our country and continent. The ANC has always been a
movement for the liberation and independence of all African
countries and peoples. It waged struggle for the restoration of the
human dignity of all Africans and the equality of all races and
nations.
The ANC is convinced that Africa's time has
come.
